God breathing through me

Tales from an Applied Mathematics Graduate

Photo taken from https://secure.hosting.vt.edu/www.icam.vt.edu/icam.images/dlLorenz.jpg This may be a useless post for my normal visitors but sometimes you need to speak something loudly!  It may be helpful for someone to stop him or her from experiencing what you have experienced!  One of the most important aspects of blogging is the way that it helps bloggers to share their own experience with others.  Experience is a priceless thing that costs as much as our life!

During the school days and when I hadn't gone to university to study Applied Mathematics, I loved mathematics so much and was very talented in this field.  After getting in the university, for several reasons that were related to the environment I missed my love to mathematics and got bored about it at first stages.  This was my mistake under the pressure of the environment while mathematics itself was very sweet.

At university, I always had a bad feeling about everything.  My classmates were just some guys who wanted to pass courses one after one and didn't want to step in details.  This was making things so hard for me as a guy who wanted to pass courses and learn things together.  I translated and wrote several articles at university and had some lectures there but no one encouraged me about that so this crappy feeling stopped me from my love day after day.  Of course, note that mathematics is a hard topic to learn so my classmates were not doing something wrong.  Now that I go back and recall our days at university, I don't think I'm able to pass those courses again!!

After finishing university and getting out of the hell, I hadn't had much need to deal with mathematics directly but day after day I'm noticing some facts about the effect of having a knowledge in this field on my life!

I never thought about the changes in my mind after university in comparison with before it.  But after one year, I'm feeling these changes better!

Photo taken from http://www.informatics.bangor.ac.uk/public/mathematics/goldlogo.gifOne of these changes is my special attention to everything!  When dealing with something, I have a different look at it and can find some unseen sides of it.  When I bring this to software development, it can help me a lot because I can find holes in the code and predict some possible cases that I don't think I could be able to find without training on some topics like Real Analysis.  Not only I'm able to apply my knowledge in mathematics to find better solutions to uncommon problems but also it has been able to prepare my mind for analysis and design in general.  One of our teachers at university had same opinion and he told me that mathematic graduates can be successfully in fields that need analysis and design such as like software.

In mathematics, I was talented in some fields like Discrete Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, Stochastic Processes, Time Series, Cryptography Systems and Numerical Analysis.  Of course, I love these fields very much because had to deal with them in my life more than other fields.  This probably comes from the fact that I've been a software architect and developer and these fields can have some relationships with my skills.

Nowadays I'm facing with people who ask me to help them in mathematics and interestingly I've forgotten most of formulas but can prove them all from the base in a few minutes.  When answering to their question, I feel like a hero because I believe that I was on the right track at university and didn't waste my time with researching!

I'd notice others to spend sometime in mathematics.  Whether you're a dentist, a developer or a teacher, it can help you in your daily life but most likely you don't feel it.  In my opinion people who know mathematics can live better than others!

Nothing!  I just thought I have to write this so wrote it!
