God breathing through me

My Favorite .NET Link Blogs

Link blogs are one of the common types of blogs that are actually a list of links to other resources in a specific field. At first glance, it seems easy to collect some links and present them in a blog post and somehow this statement is right but there are some people who don’t take it easy and put a good effort to present great link blogs.

The good point about link blogs in comparison with automatic aggregators is that they’re much more intelligent and always end up with the best content.

I personally love to follow some worthy .NET link blogs because I experienced that they always have something interesting for me. There are many link blogs out there that I don’t follow at all and even don’t know them but a few .NET link blogs could catch my eyes.

Here I want to list them and give credit back to their authors in order to help promote their valuable work. You may want to check out their blogs and subscribe to them.

Alvin Ashcraft

Before start writing this section, I was going to write that Alvin’s link blog is one of the new but fast growing .NET link blogs but suddenly noticed that it’s over 14 months old! Man, time has gone so fast!

Alvin started an interesting link blog in May 2007 and did a great job on collecting useful links on .NET community on a daily basis. I’ve been following his blog from the early days and it has brought me a lot of interesting links.

Beside regular link blogging, he also provides some helpful stuff like a section called Book of the Day at the end of each blog post.

Jason Haley

This is an oldie but goodie link blog that you are all aware of that! Jason Haley would be the oldest .NET blogger who has been providing a daily collection of interesting links on his blog.

I’ve been also following his blog for a long time. In my opinion it needs a total refreshment and a new modern blogging engine as well as a new theme that attracts more readers. Nowadays .Text is an antiquated blog engine.

Chris Alcock

Chris is a British .NET blogger who has a daily link blog about .NET and software. His blog is called Reflective Perspective. He doesn’t provide as many links as abovementioned bloggers but his links are usually unique.

Reflective Perspective is a little older than Alvin’s blog and was started in January 2007. I eventually found him via some trackbacks on my blog and after a while got interested in his content.

Dave Burke

It’s my dear friend’s turn! Dave Burke is already known to you, a very respectful .NET developer and blogger who has been blogging for a long time.

Dave’s blog is primarily about various topics but regular link posts have been a common part of his content in different forms. I can remember his daily and weekly Community Server links and later some weekly link posts with different names. Nowadays he has migrated from Community Server to BlogEngine.NET and is writing a regular link post series called Everyman Links.

Sam Gentile

Like Dave, Sam Gentile has a general blog about software development, SOA and .NET but provides a daily link post series called New and Notable.

My main reason to follow his links is his unique posts about SOA that is one of my personal fields of interest. Sam is a well-known SOA guru on the community so it’s always worthwhile to follow him.

These were some .NET link blogs that I frequent everyday. There may be some other interesting blogs that I’m missing so feel free to leave a comment with your favorite link blogs.

Chris Alcock's is great. He's filled the hole that was left when Mike Gunderloy stopped The Daily Grind.

(Of course, I do like all of those mentioned too)

@Ryan:

Yes, exactly. Mike Gunderloy had to be in my list if he hadn't left the .NET community.

http://delicious.com is at least as useful as these lists. Check the popular feature for common tags like asp.net, programming, .net, c#, aspnetmvc, etc.

I do not know if you are aware of the .NET Zone, dotnet.dzone.com, on Dzone.

It looks like an automated aggregator of links, right?

Thanks for the mention. I totally agree with you on the improvements I need to make ... just can't find the time and/or motivation right now unfortunately.

Thanks for reading my blog.
