I'm Keyvan Nayyeri, a 25 years old Ph.D. student at
the Computer Science department of
the University of Texas at San Antonio.
I'm also
a Software Architect and Developer and previously held a B.Sc.
degree in Applied Mathematics.
This is my blog where I publish content about various topics specifically Programming Languages and Compilers, Software
Engineering and Programming.
It’s a blogosphere tradition to publish new year resolutions at the beginning of the new year and it’s also common to give status updated on a regular basis about the progress of the goals. Last year Steve had done this with good updates and let his readers know what’s up with his major goals in the new year.
I’m also going to do the same for 2009 even though most of my major goals had been defined from the past and I’m going to take my final steps this year. Besides, these important goals are private at least for now until I can be assured that I have achieved them, and they’re not of those kinds of goals that you publish here and there!
By the way, it’s good to have a plan and look for some goals and book them somewhere to be able to check your progress. For an active blogger, his blog with public audience would be the best tool for enforcement!
At this age people find some facts about their personalities that is closer to the reality than their impressions in younger ages. I also have realized that I have a totally unbalanced life that puts more effort into work and less into the fun. A part of this might be related to some obstructs in front of me such as studying in a small city and also serving in the armies, but now that I’m free of such stuff, I should balance between work and entertainment.
In 2009 I want to have more fun and find new ways to be happier which can also help me improve my productivity in my works as well.
All my friends who have met me in the last three years have told me that I have lost my fitness, and they’re right. Unfortunately my fitness started aggravating in the last year of my undergraduate studies, and it continued.
Prior to university days, I was a tiny boy without the physical problems that I have at present. After completing the first year of undergraduate program, I underwent a surgery and doctor banned me from any physical exercise for a while. That stoppage made me lazy and unfortunately my daily life style didn’t have any option for physical training. After university I had some irregular exercise before my military training, and the military training, itself, helped me to gain my fitness again, but I spent the rest of the service in front of computers and that was enough to make me fat again! Interestingly, I have a normal weight for my size but I don’t have any fitness in my body.
Although this problem is something common among developers, I don’t want to fall in this trap. In this while I experienced many physical and physiological difficulties that could not be raised if I had kept my fitness. On the other hand, the lack of physical readiness has damaged my productivity and it’s also making me older than my age. My hairs are turning white and physical freshness can stop this progress.
My fitness is a must goal for my 2009 that I want to achieve fast.
In mid-2008 I launched my professional anti-spam service called Waegis, and put a good effort to make it better in the next half of the year. All factors support the claim that Waegis has had an excellent progress, and I’m happy for that.
In 2009 I want to take the service to the next level to make it a more known service among users and get more sites on the service. Recently I defined a roadmap for the project and I think that implementation of these new features can help the service find the position that it deserves. Beside those goals, I also have to think about targeting other platforms.
I love open source development and always have been trying to contribute to this community. Military service and the few months after that, didn’t allow me to spend much time in this area. Fortunately my open source works never stopped completely, but in 2009 I want to resume my active contributions, and reload some projects. One of the first goals in this area is a new release of BlogML.
This is not something 100% certain but in 2009 I want to smoothly move off the online noise and stay away from some online activities. Recently I realized that the online noise around me is bothersome, and I’m not very interested in such a noise.
Moreover, in 2009 I may fulfill more important responsibilities that mandate me to dedicate my time to them, and reduce my online activities like blogging and appearance on social networking sites such as Twitter. Of course, I’m not one of those guys who think think that blogging is a stupid task but this would be a matter of choosing between good and better.
Therefore, in 2009 I may disappear from some sites or reduce my activities on them, and also put my effort in the quality of my blog.
