Visual Studio Gallery
The newest addition to Visual Studio Extensibility community is a new site created by Microsoft and is called Visual Studio Gallery.
The site that is just launched today contains a list of various commercial or free Visual Studio add-ins and extensions. Whether these extensions are written by Microsoft or third party vendors, Microsoft lists them on the site to support these projects and let the community knows more about all the available extensions for Visual Studio.
On the site items are listed with a description and are categorized in some common categories so you can search to find your desire add-in or extension. Obviously current list doesn't cover all the available add-ins and extensions on the community even those common ones but most likely it will be a rich list of the available extensions in a short while.
2008 is the year of Visual Studio Extensibility at Microsoft. Visual Studio Ecosystem team has great plans to improve the VSX community by better documentation, support, events and investments.
I'm glad to see these activities on the VSX community in the new year and I'm also happy to see my book coming out in a short while later this year to help the community.
