Keyvan and His Feed - Last Episode
It looks like that I have an endless story with my RSS feed on this blog! After over 32 months of active blogging I still have problems with the RSS feed for my subscribers and in Web >= 1.5 this is a big trouble because can stop many regular readers from following the content.
Going back to some months ago I was blogging with Community Server and moved my feed to FeedBurner for a few days but found that I don't like to use their service for no logical reason! After a few days I switched back to Community Server feed and kept up my blogging!
Migrating to Graffiti was equal to having a new feed RSS and some 301 redirects to new URL. Graffiti 1.0 Beta 1 had an invalid RSS structure that was stopping some online and offline feed readers and aggregators from fetching my content. After upgrading to Beta 2 those problems could be solved for a short while but after upgrading to version 1.0 RTW and writing some blog posts I noticed something weird.
My statistics were showing a huge decrease in my traffic after the upgrade that made me think about the reason and look for it. Going back and forth and checking my statistics I found that this reduction is with the number of visitors that were coming from big aggregators and online readers. Very weird!
I checked this with Scott and found that some different aggregators hosted on different servers and powered with different applications are unable to fetch my posts. Since there wasn't any error to diagnose it was so hard to tackle the debugging and I couldn't find any thread to follow and solve the issue. However, I won't give up on this and should find the reason in the next days but in the short and mean time I decided to change my mind as you read in a moment.
Sometime at the middle of the process of resolving this issue I finally decided to make a permanent move to FeedBurner and its MyBand service. There were two main reasons for me. First one was the fact that FeedBurner provides the valid feed and this guarantees the availability of my feed for everyone. My other reason was the uptime of FeedBurner feeds. My site may be down for several reasons for a short time but my feed on FeedBurner can be accessible during any down time and this also lets me keep my visitors informed about any critical problem with my site like my recent domain transfer.
All in all, now I have an stable feed that you can subscribe to it. All previous subscribers should be redirected to new feed address but I'd recommend you to resubscribe to the new feed to prevent any future issue and missing my great content!!
