Introducing Community Server Extras

Having an open source project around Community Server customizations was one of things that we (community folks) were discussing about it for a long time.  There was a CSModules Repository project but it was limited to CSModules and we were unable to include custom controls in it.

After hitting Community Server 2007 and introducing a new theme engine named Chameleon, which opens new doors to new world for Community Server designers and developers, I decided to revisit our old ideas.  My last post about writing a custom Chameleon control was the first attempt to make this possible.

Today I created a new project on CodePlex and named it Community Server Extras.  This project mainly focuses on Community Server custom controls and wants to get the help of community to provide a rich set of custom controls for Community Server 2007 (or later).

Unlike our CSModules project, this new project is open and all developers can join to it (and I hope to see more developers there) but there are some requirements that I've outlined here.  You can reply to that thread to join to the team.

Community Server Extras is licensed under New BSD License which is open enough for personal and commercial usages and derivations.

I've uploaded the initial structure of project codes and am awaiting for good developers to join me on this project.  I have some ideas to write a few custom controls and am sure that you have many other ideas.  There is also a thread to share your comments and suggestions about new controls that you can use to send your thoughts.

I hope that we can release the first package sooner.

+ Speaking of our CSModules Repository, after a short delay, we're getting ready to release the newest package for Community Server 2007 very soon.

Some updates to previous CSModules to solve problems and make them work with Community Server 2007 RTM as well as a new CSModule. Hopefully it will be ready until Monday.
