Successfully Moved to VPS
After 11 months of hosting my site on shared and dedicated servers of ASPnix finally I moved my site to a new small company on our VPS account. Movement wasn't easy because I got in trouble with some errors after moving my files to new server and it took 20 hours to upload right back up and restore it on new server. Unfortunately site was down for some hours yesterday and I'm sorry for this.
However, now my site has a new place to live there. After leaving our MVP dedicated server on ASPnix I moved my site to shared servers again but some problems (especially around mail server which was going to cause some problems for my job contracts) forced me to think about a new host. ASPnix and Roma were a great host for me and my site during these 11 months and I really enjoyed their services (in comparison with price). My other sites are still there but due to my traffic and my needs to have a better control on my site, I decided to move it to this VPS.
My new host is a small hosting company that is owned by a friend. He had offered his services to some Community Server folks and I tried one of his last available packages with my dear friend, Mehrdad, to host our sites on it. I'm happy with this VPS and its quality and hope that it can help me to improve the site.
One of interesting points about this new host is its hosting panel application which is DotNetPanel. I hadn't worked with it before but in one word it's amazing.
On the other hand I made another major change to my site and disabled my file and photo galleries. Friends know that I love simplicity and try to keep things clean and simple. My site was getting larger than what I could imagine and it was making the administration a little hard. Community Server 2007 comes with a new feature to store blog files via Control Panel and I used this feature to store my files and updated my old blog posts to refer to right links and I think this is a better alternative for my old file gallery. I just want to share my files with others and in my opinion this shouldn't waste my time and resources to manage a file gallery. On the other hand as I mentioned before I've returned to my Flickr account so decided to disable my photo gallery and make my site smaller and simpler. You can follow my photos there.
But there are some other changes coming. Hopefully I'll disable my Atom feed in next 48-72 hours and will redirect it to my RSS feed. I also may modify source code to redirect all RSS feed for tags to my main RSS feed. There are some SEO problems on my site that I have to solve and finally I may create or import a new theme for my blog based on its new structure.
However, you know it's spring and everything needs a refreshment!
