Call Of Duty - Keyvan Edition

After a long time, finally they called me to serve.  I had it in mind to start my military service in October but my university didn't let me to do it.  Hidden rules to suffer young men, I'll write about these things later!  Every political word that I write here is more pain for me in military and they can't change anything!

However, according to what they've sent, I must start my training on February 20, 2007.  This means I'll be off on our new year ceremony and all spring long!

Actually I never could believe how long should I serve in training.  Some guys say two months, others say three, four, five, six, ...!  But apparently I won't be able to keep here up.  I have some plans to write stuff and leave them for someone to publish them in order to prevent military from destroying everything in my life but it depends on the time and effort that I'll have in incoming months.  While training, I won't be at home for more than 3-5 days per month (it's not predictable but I got an average from others experiences).  Anyway, I'll be off for 3-4 months to pass training then they will kick me out to somewhere else to waste remained months!

There are many things to write about military service and this government but let me write them when I'm not here.  I can't predict good military for myself and anyone who will serve with me but I hope it goes in peace.  I don't see any light in this space for myself except one: I'll be free to travel to wherever I want after that!  It's left to me to try to pass these two years without loosing what I have and this isn't easy at all.  Here primary goal of military is to get these things and I should try more and more!

I heard some news about changes in military rules which force us to serve for more months (24 months) but I couldn't confirm them yet.  I'll be 25 when they will let me to leave.  Then I simply wasted 3 years of my life in this country, it really sucks!

Thank you, J-O, Yes, there is no way to avoid this stupid work. Here there are many young men who don't pass military because they can live regarding all restrictions that will happen in their life. But I want to leave and they won't give my passport before passing military service. In 21st century these rules suck and I know why they have these rules and persist on them but let me write about this stuff after these two years! Anyways, thanks again for your comment :-)

Keyvan, my friend. As a young man I served in the U.S. Army for a total of one year, eight months and twenty-six days. (Yes, I counted the days, if that tells you anything.) At the time it sucked big time, especially the initial training and getting used to life in the Army. Since I've been through it, I think it's helpful if you try to think of the experience as boy scout camp where everything is taken care of for you (room, rent, meals, scheduling, etc.) and you don't have to make any decisions. The time spent in the military can be a valuable experience for the rest of your life. Honest.

Thomas, Thanks, I wish I can ;-) Dave, Thanks for sharing your experience, I appreciate it :-) Yes, I agree on the experiences it can have for me and everyone who serves in a real military service. But in fact here we don't pass a real military service and this is the reason to suffer me and others. Government tries to use military service to reach some aims that aren't the actual aims of military. They're some dirty political aims. Let me write about their main aims later but you can be sure I won't pass a real military service ;-) However, I think it's a good experience to manage my life when they waste more than 10-12 hours of my time everyday and make me tired.

Good luck, Keyvan. Keep a positive attitude and you'll come out fine, I'll bet. My military experience was, in hindsight, good experience though often hard, stupid, depressing, lonely, or boring (though rarely all of those at once). So take the bad with the good and remember "experience is what you get when you don't get what you want" and "this too shall pass". Take care.

Steve, Thank you so much for advice. Yes, I agree about the experiences that will be there for me and I'll try to get as much as I can. I hope, at the end, I can have good experiences to use in rest of life. I'm pretty sure my military won't be as hard as yours. Things go faster than what I think ;-)
