Kid Congo blog skin on Nayyeri.NET
[Update: I removed Currently Reading section again! I should define some rules for my site and follow everything according to them.]
After upgrading to Community Server 2.1 Beta 2, I changed my blog skin to new built-in Community Server skin, Kid Congo, designed by newest Community Server MVP Jaxon Rice. It was (and is) his blog skin and he added this skin plus some other beautiful skins to Community Server 2.1.
These new skins need some changes so I had to change some parts for Kid Congo myself. Probably after himself I'm the first guy who applied this skin to an official website but I guess it will be post popular blog skin for Community Server. I know Jaxon as a professional designer and I'm proud to say I'm a Community Server MVP when he's one of our small community members.
This skin has some advantages in compare with other skins:
- It's completely based on CSS and Jaxon hasn't used many images in design.
- As post excerpts will be aggregated in homepage, homepage have a small size.
- Most important and hidden hack that Jaxon has applied is a JavaScript code which keeps main content width in browser window resize. Probably he can talk about it better than me but I remember this from past months when he talked about this hack in Community Server internal system.
One of things that I added to blog skin and for some reasons didn't like it (have you ever seen some monkeys in zoo?!) was Currently Reading section but I needed something to fill my blog sidebar with it.
Anyway after upgrading to 2.1, I left full width skins and tried to keep things simple. You know here had many changes in its short life but this is normal when you know I'm a Community Server folk and focus on code so upgrade with each new version.
Latest point is please forgive me if you're reading my blog from feed readers and sometimes my items are refreshed. I hadn't attended to this point before because I wasn't subscribed to my feed. I'll avoid more refreshes.
+ Temporary my site navigation menu is accessible from bottom right of my skin until I can find a way to move it to top.
